On the Field of Battle - Part 5

A variety of short tales from the myriad battlefields past, present, future, factual or fanciful. Mankind doing what it seems to do so often, and oh, so very well.

Fallen Warriors
No word had come from the squad that had left that morning and it fell to us to go out and try to track them down and to find out what had happened.  We knew where they were expected to go so, following their anticipated route we began to find signs of their passing. It didn't take long.
Crossing the dunes we followed the tracks as best we could but we soon spied something ahead.  It was a body. Unfortunately one of ours. He had apparently dropped back from the rest, whether to relieve himself, or to watch the rear as they advanced, we could not tell.
He had been grabbed from behind, thrown to the ground and apparently run through with his own sword.

Leaving him to the buzzards we followed the tracks toward the shore, Getting to the rocky ground we lost good tracks but spreading out we started to find other bodies here and there, scattered like the battle was one of pursuit and attack as opportunity presented itself.I found the body one of the enemy soldiers laying in a gap between two big boulders and his head laying on the other side at the end of a long bloody smear, eyes and mouth wide open as if startled at my approach.
Just beyond him I found another body - one of ours.

Still clutching his bloodied sword, he had one arrow in the thigh, one in the lower abdomen and one through the stomach. The killer thrust had to be the one wide gash in his left chest. Probably the "finish him off"  stab that I have used many times myself.  Strong, handsome, very manly, very dead.  He was an experienced and skilled warrior. I had fought beside him many times myself.
I looked to my left and spotted a solitary figure lying face down in the lapping water with the unmistakable flag of a fletched shaft standing proudly out from between his shoulders, marking the spot that now flowed with bright red blood which ran down and stained the otherwise clear blue water with the vital fluid escaping from his pierced body.

"Over here!" Argo, one of my party shouted.  Hurrying toward him I passed two other corpses lying grotesquely sprawled over the rocks.  I stepped up close to Argo. "This one's alive." he said, pointing to the figure lying in the wet sand at the edge of the sea.
"Please... Please help me." he pleaded.
Laying on the sand was a handsome young man dressed in a very skimpy cloth garment, his manhood sharply outlined in the muddy, wet cloth. His handsome face, now stained with mud and blood looked up at me with a pleading, helpless look. He was holding his sword, pointed toward me in a defensive posture. Blood stained the sand under and around him as he weakly waved the sharp blade in my direction as I approached.

"Who are you?" I asked him.
"My name is Marcus." He answered. "Warrior slave of my lord Rastus."
"Did you kill those men back there?" I asked, waving my hand at the body-strewn rocks.
"I fought them as they fought against me." he answered.
"Who did that to you?" I asked, pointing to the sword in his gut.
"That one," he said, pointing toward another of our dead warriors lying nearby. A neat single slit in his chest had gushed volumes of blood and ended his battle quickly.
"Quick and merciful death. He must have struck at almost the moment you killed him."
"Perhaps if he had struck higher or deeper..." He answered but stopped and looked up into my eyes. He knew what was coming.
"Then I will finish what he started." I answered.Stepping in close, Raising my heavy boot, I gave one powerful kick to the handle of the sword already stabbed into his gut.  The handle slammed into his abs as a thick spurt of thick, dark blood exploded from his back with the blade as it tore through flesh and bone. His handsome face contorted with pain as he dropped his sword into the sand and grabbed for the handle of the sword that now had ripped through his tortured body.
He shuddered and groaned as the thick, dark blood spewed from the broad gasher in both his abdomen and his back. Writhing with agony he rolled back and forth in the sand. His thick cock stiffened and stood out almost as straight as the sword handle.  reaching down with one hand he grasped his thick, stiff cock and squeezed it, shuddering with pain. Suddenly his body wrenched with powerful convulsions as the white semen pumped out the end of his swollen cock and ran down the quivering, pumping shaft into the blood and mud.
His grip relaxed and he lay weakly panting in the mud as his strength faded. In a few moments he was dead. I couldn't resist the temptation. I knelt down and grabbed his still stiff cock as I grabbed my own and savored the moment of the young warrior's death.  Looking around I saw the other members of the team finishing their own pleasure, spurting across the bodies of those nearby who had preceded them into the warrior's paradise that they too would someday enter. The moment for our brief taste of that paradise over, we gathered our belongings, looted the corpses of anything valuable and prepared to report back about the lost squad.
The other members of the squad were missing and presumed to be captured, taken back to wherever the enemy camp was and probably would be tortured or turned into slaves and sex toys for their pleasures.

Walt came to consciousness. Sight, light and pain assailed his senses as he felt the cold blade moving around inside him as he started moving. The battle had lasted only long enough for him to turn around and feel the shaft penetrate skin, muscle and intestines, and a sharp uppercut to the jaw sent him sprawling backward and smashing his skull against a stone as he fell.
Now he found he had been stripped of his boots, shirt and belt. His bloody shirt lay in the water with a pink stain flowing slowly downstream from it. One of the lumps under him turned out to be his knife, but all other belongings, watch, ring, wallet, were gone.  Struggling to pull himself from the cold water, the wounded young man slowly worked his way to where he could sit or lean against a rock and hope for help to happen by before it was too late. The blade ripped and tore at his insides each time he pulled himself along and by the time help arrived, his torn body was already as cold as the water he had fallen into.

Death Game Trying my best to remain out of sight, I hid in the thin cover of the dead brush.  Alone and naked, armed only with a knife, I was the target of a kill or be killed game that I had chosen to join for the same prize that the others in it had joined to gain and call their own. The prize was a million dollars cash. The rules of the game? No one leaves the desert except the last one left alive. The big man that was currently tracking me had killed five other players that I witnessed. I had killed three myself but this guy was good.  My only hope was to hide until he was almost on me and strike before he can react.
He moved like a cat. Stealthily moving, searching for tracks and moving ahead.
There! he spotted my tracks and he was coming. No second chance now. Kill or die.
Springing up from behind the bush, I gave my best impression of a war whoop, scattering a big handful of sand into the air to distract him. He stopped, looked in my direction and raised his knife. I thew my knife and hoped for the best.
I heard the deep thud as the blade slammed into his breastbone.
"Unhhh!" he grunted. His throw was interrupted and the blade flipped harmlessly backwards. He grabbed for his chest, arched his back and tumbled over backwards like a big oak tree felled by a lumberjack.
He landed hard, flat on his back and did not move after his arms fell to his sides. I ran up to him and stared at the bronzed, muscled body as the realization that it could have been me lying there with my heart split with a long thick blade instead swirled through my mind.  His beautiful body beckoned and I knelt down, feeling his massive abs, powerful arms and thick hair. His semi hard manhood stood up from his body from a nice bush of curly red hair. I had to touch that beautiful shaft before I headed back to collect my prize...

Surf Duel Fighting in the surf seemed like a great idea. David was a good fighter, fast, agile and strong, plus he loves the thrill of the kill. "Nothing hotter than to feel the resistance of the blade just before it penetrates a guy's skin and slips in through his body, stopping as the hilt presses against his flesh."
The challenger was tall, muscular and very handsome. This was going to be really hot... "Can't wait to see the look in his eyes as he feels the death thrust."
Stripped down to his boxers David waved his knife at the handsome intruder. His deep blue eyes flashed with fierce anger as David sliced for is chest, just barely nicking his left pec and drawing a small red stain that flashed red and washed away, and re stained his chest as the fight drew on in the splashing waters.
Turned on by the sight of the small wound, David could feel his manhood swelling in his soaking wet boxers. His opponent couldn't help but see his swollen manhood bouncing in his face as he slipped in the wet sand and almost landed where the next swing of the blade would have ended his life. David now got to see his opponent's swelling cock tenting the briefs, taunting him by it's sheer size.  This guy was huge!
Now it was getting serious. (Not that it wasn't already...) David's pulse raised as he parried a thrust meant for his chest and countered with a slash that took a slice out of the handsome brute's forearm.
Yelping with pain, the fighter stepped back just far enough to quickly look at the fresh gash in his arm.  He wiped it on the only thing he had, his briefs, right across the front and that huge pointed tent.  David nearly squealed with delight at the sight.  That huge boner, outlined by the rich red of fresh blood on this beautiful specimen of manhood.  He was already taken by it but now that bouncing beauty was irresistible.
Each move of this massive shaft now beckoned. David wanted it so badly.  He imagined himself playing with it as his opponent died in his arms in the surf. He wanted him to last long enough that he could suck him dry of any cum he could produce, to feel that massive shaft choking his throat with it's huge size, to taste the... "Unghhhh!"
His imagination was brought to an abrupt and painful end as he felt the blade tear in through his abdomen just to the left of his appendix scar. The enraged fighter ripped the blade from his gut and rammed it in again, this time farther to the left. As the hilt pushed him backwards, the fighter grabbed him and held him up close as he slammed it in for a third time in David's lower left side. David took one last swing at the wonderfully proportioned body holding him and stabbed the blade weakly into the fighter's side. The fighter responded by driving the blade in deeper and twisting it. David shuddered and stiffened with pain.  Falling backwards, he slid off from the thick blade and landed in the shallow water.  Looking at the billowing surf stained with his own blood he looked up at his opponent.  Those deep blue eyes were still filled with rage but that made them all the more alluring.  Raising his knife high over his head, the fighter threw it downward with one last burst of rage.
The blade slammed deep into David's gut and stood there like a flag planted in conquered territory. His mouth opened but nothing but blood came out. He stared with disbelief at his ruined body.  Life was rapidly fading and he could feel his manhood reaching a never before felt level of pain and ecstasy as his shaft started pumping, flooding his boxers with a huge volume of hot cum that poured out into the cool salt water and washed away.

His opponent watched the spectacle at his feet.  The wound in his side was not serious and the warm blood running down his side felt strangely erotic as he watched David dying in the pink water.

Slipping his briefs down, he grasped the thick shaft and started stroking himself as the bloody figure at his feet started weakening.

David watched as the world began to fade. He closed his eyes with the pain but reopened them as he felt warm, thick fluid hit his face while his victor arched his back in sexual ecstasy.  The last thing he saw was  his killer raise his foot, place it on the handle of the knife in his gut, step down, driving it in through his tortured body.  The hilt resisted for a time but with increased force it ripped through the wound and his killer's foot pressed flat against his stomach, the knife now completely inside. Lastly he felt the warm and merciful feel of the blade as he was pushed down into the sand, the blade ripping out through his back, the waters washing over him thus ending his short but wonderful life as a warrior.

Nailed
Steve hurried back from the tent, the sound of battle ahead told him to get to his weapons and defend the camp. Rounding the corner of the street, he stopped short at the sight of two archers taking aim.
Unarmed, he raised his arms in surrender. - It did not matter.

His Battle is Over
He had fought valiantly. The small group had held off thousands but the battle weary soldiers were horribly outnumbered and the archers were far beyond the reach of sword or spear.

Final Thrust
The two men battled back and forth at the waters edge. Not even sure anymore what they had been sent to battle for, they had both essentially given up. Finally Andrew wrapped his arm around Mark and held him in place until he drove his sword into his chest all the way to the hilt. Mark shuddered with pain but gratefully surrendered to the sweet arms of death.

Posing With Their Trophy

I watched the chase helplessly as the two sentries chased the lone intruder down the beach. Whether by intent or accident he had crossed the line of defended territory and there was no plea or forgiveness. Catching him, they knocked him to the ground and ordered him to surrender to them. Seeing me, the older man waved me over and asked me to take their picture. I agreed to do it, hoping they might let him go after the photo session was over. The terrified intruder lay face down in the sand, not knowing what they were going to do.

The older whispered something to the younger and he smiled and nodded back to him. I raised my camera preparing to take the picture. They placed their feet on the lad and smiled.
As I sighted in for the shot I was horrified at the agonizing scream as the sentry slowly drove his spear in through the young man's back until it could go no farther.
They held their pose until I clicked the shutter.

Two to Die 1

Some days are good and some days are bad but one thing is for certain, one day, sooner or later will be your last day alive. Ben was determined that he was going to win and he charged full on until Brett stumbled and fell backward. Seeing his chance to win he lunged at Brett, aiming for his midsection, fully expecting to drive his sword completely through.

The searing pain in his gut stopped the forward lunge. Ben let hold of his sword and grasped the blade in his gut. Backing up the blade sliced into his fingers and palms as it withdrew from his body but left a gaping, bleeding hole in his gut and another in his back. Staggering back he whirled around and toppled face first on the rocks, gasping for air for a short time before his end came.

Two to Die 2
Brett had been successful in stabbing his attacker but not in a way that he would have wanted.
Today was indeed his day to die as well.

Beach Patrol
Cody loved everything about shore patrol duty. Drive up the shore for half an hour, South for an hour and back north for another half hour. Keep in radio contact and report anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Avoid any contact with the enemy, if possible or call for backup to take them out. Two patrols per day for him with a two hour break in between patrols while another rider runs.

In the past two months the patrols had lost several men. Sometimes they would disappear without a trace, sometimes the bodies or motorcycles were found, but the losses had caused them to double up on the patrols. Another rider was about fifteen minutes ahead of him and another was about that far behind.

This morning was a close call. He had been on his first patrol when he was attacked by a coastal invader. He had just rounded a bend in the shoreline and spotted something dark and shiny ahead. As he stopped his bike and started to dismount he felt a stinging pain in his wrist. He had just been shot with a bolt from a mini crossbow.
"This is Cody, I'm under attack!" he shouted into his helmet radio.
"Hang on, I'm coming..." Kev replied in his ear.
Without hesitation, Cody drew his katana and charged the attacker as he attempted to reload his crossbow. With no time to reload, he pulled his knife and slashed at Cody's throat as he got close, knocking Cody's helmet to the ground. He slashed again. Blocking the slash with his arm but losing his grip on his sword, Cody followed through with a powerful uppercut to the solar plexus, knocking the wind out of him and causing him to gasp for breath. While he was still struggling to breathe, Cody grabbed at the knife and twisted it out of his hand.

With one swift arcing motion, Cody brought the knife around and drove the full length of the long blade up under his ribcage. The attacker gasped and grabbed hold of Cody for support. He looked down at the handle of his knife. Cody grabbed the handle again and pushed it into his attacker's body with enough force to shove him backwards. The black suited attacker fell onto the beach groaning with pain. Cody stood over him watching as he lay dying. His crotch bulge grew as his cock swelled and snaked to one side inside the rubber suit. Moaning with pain and wild erotic pleasure, the dying man writhed on the wet sand. Cody could feel his own meat swelling as he watched the strong, handsome body struggling to breathe inside the black rubber suit.
"What's your name?" Cody asked.
"Dean... Unhhh..."
"My name is Cody, Dean, I thought you might want to know."
"I can't get up..." Dean gasped.
"Good thing. If you did, I'd have to stab you again."
"What are you going to do with me?" Dean asked.
"I am going to watch you die. Actually you're doing quite well." Cody said pointing to Dean's bulging crotch. "You're almost ready." "How's the knife feel?"
"...hurts, hurts a lot." Dean gasped.
"If I pull it out you'll die right away, If I leave it alone you'll go slower."
"Please, no." He gasped. "Don't pull it."
Kneeling down beside the dying man, Cody admired the handsome face and muscular form wrapped in the shiny black suit. "Looks like you're about to erupt." Cody said.
"Hurts!" he replied.
"Let me help." Cody offered.
"No! What are you going to do??" Dean asked, fear and pain contorting his face.
"Just this." Cody answered as he gently grabbed Dean's thick shaft and began to massage it slowly through the thick rubber suit. "I shouldn't do this for you, after all, you shot me with that dammed little crossbow of yours."
"You would have killed me if you had seen me first anyways, What choice do we have? We are at war." Dean answered.
"Shut up and hold still" Cody said, massaging a little faster and harder.
"Unh! Ooh! Oh, god!" "Ahhhhh, Unh Unh Unh Aghhhh!"
Dean's manhood erupted inside the suit, pumping huge amounts of thick, slippery cum into the confined space. As the cum spread, the pumping shaft started slipping around easily as Dean shuddered and convulsed with powerful erotic spasms. The movement caused the knife wound to tear open Dean's insides and hasten the inevitable end. The first little trickle of blood managed to leak out of the stab wound as the suit began to fill with blood inside.
"Oh god! ooohhh! Unhhh. I'm going..."
"You're not alone, I'm here." Cody answered.
"Thank you. That helps somehow." Dean said as he squeezed tightly on Cody's arm.
"Uuuhhhhhhh...."In a moment he was gone. His glistening, black sheathed body lay still, his head dropped to the sand and his hands fell to his sides. His pain, fears and cares were now gone forever. Cody shook his head at the spectacle before him. One minute he wanted to kill this man that wanted to take his life, and the next he had pity and regrets for the loss of what could have been a friend in another reality.
As the adrenaline in his system started to subside, he started shivering as if he were chilled. Cody reached for his cock to masturbate over his fallen enemy or lost friend. Stroking hard he quickly came to climax, pumping his load onto the black rubber. "Best tribute I can give you now." Cody said, tucking his meat back into his leathers. He knelt down and patted the dead man's shoulder. "Goodbye, my friend."
As Cody stood, the sound of a motorcycle approaching caught his ears.
"You OK?" The rider asked as he approached. "You didn't answer my calls on the radio.
Cody pointed to his helmet lying in the sand.
"Looks like you took care of him. You alright?"
"You might say that."
"Shit! Lock at that cock! He's hung as big as you are." Kev hooted. "I see you blew your wad on him too."
"What are you saying?" Cody asked.
"Just that you could have waited for me to get here." Kev smiled. "I could have joined in."
"Sorry, maybe next time."
"Hey, you're bleeding. Did he get you too?"
"A little." Cody answered as he pulled some bandages from his med kit and started wrapping his wounded wrist. "I'll be OK."

This afternoon was hot. His leathers were stowed in his cycle and he was stripped to his trunks. The hot sun beat down on him as he rode in the ocean breeze but the air felt good as he drove up the beach.

Still sore from this morning's attack, Cody slowed as he rounded the bend where he and Dean met this morning. The beach was clear and there was no sign of what had happened earlier in the day,no bodies, no blood, not even tracks in the sand, all traces washed away with the tide.
---
Dean's body and gear had been brought to the camp for examination and equipment salvage shortly after Cody got back from his patrol. He stood and watched as they unloaded the body onto a table, the handle of his knife still sticking out of the rubber suit.
Several members of the team self consciously adjusted their crotches as they started getting stiff at the sight of the muscular, hung young warrior with that blade deep inside his rubber suited form. Cody couldn't help getting aroused at the sight either.
"Can I have his knife?" Cody asked.
"Sure, Take it." The Colonel answered. "You earned it."
Cody unstrapped the sheath from Dean's leg and laid it on the table beside his body. As he grabbed the knife handle, he remembered the sensations as he drove the blade in and the grimace on Dean's face.
Pulling on the handle, the rubber clad body slid toward the edge of the table. Placing his hand on Dean's firm abdomen he pushed him back toward the center while dislodging the blade from his ribs. A thick flow of nearly black blood followed the blade out through the narrow slit pooling on the table beside the still slab of meat.
"When I heard your call on the radio, I was afraid it might be your day to die." Kev said as they walked out together.
"You never know," Cody answered, "it might still be."
"Don't say that." Kev said. "I don't want to lose you. I've got plans for us later tonight, I mean if you want to..."
"I don't want to lose you either." Cody said, giving him a quick one armed hug across the shoulders as they walked out together. "Meet you at the usual place after our shift?" Cody asked.
"At the gym, then back to my place. I've got to get back." Kev said. "I've got a patrol again this afternoon."
"Me too." Cody smiled. "See you at the rendezvous point."
---
Cody continued up the beach, watching for any signs of incursion but found none.
At the turn around point, Cody stopped and watched up the beach.
"I'm here, awaiting visual contact." he said into his helmet radio.
The silence from his earpiece was deafening.
"Ocean Rider Seven calling Sea Watch Nine, Kev, do you copy?"
Still nothing.
"Ocean Rider Base, this is Ocean Rider Seven, I have no response from Sea Watch Nine. I am at the rendezvous point. No radio, no visual. Request permission to proceed to see if I can find him."
"OR7, O R Base here. Negative. Stay where you are until backup arrives."
"Roger that!" Cody answered. "Hurry!"
Drumming is fingers nervously, Cody strained to see any sign of movement up the beach. He knew that at top speed the backup from either base would be ten minutes away.
"Screw this, I'm moving up." he said. "He might be in real trouble."
"Negative Rider Seven, Hold your position."
"What? Your signal's breaking up. Can't hear you." Cody responded as he started moving up the beach. "Try again later."
He knew he would be in trouble but he couldn't leave his friend out there all alone.

Not too far from where he was waiting, Cody could see the bright green of Kev's motorcycle laying in the sand.
"Shit." "This is Ocean Rider Seven. I have a visual on Kev's bike just over a mile from the rendezvous point. It's laying on it's side in the sand. I don't see him yet."
He slowed to a crawl as he scanned the shore and the water for any sight of his friend.
"Kevin! Kev, it's Cody, where are you?! Answer me."
Just then he spotted something in the water just a little farther up.
"Kev!!" he shouted, "Oh shit, Kev."
"I see him!" Cody shouted into the radio. "He's in the water."
Jumping off his bike and wading out into the water, Cody could see his friend bobbing about in the surf. The water was only knee deep as he waded out toward him. The foaming, splashing water was stained red around Kev's body. Grabbing him by his ankle, he started pulling him toward shore. Rolling him over to get his face out of the water, Cody's heart sank at the grisly sight before him.

Kevin's body was slashed wide open, intestines dangled from the huge wound. Two more stab wounds were bleeding between the gut wound and the all too familiar looking handle of the blade embedded in his heart.

"Kevin...!" Cody moaned. "Who did this to you?" The answer came with painful swiftness as he felt the searing pain of a sword ripping through his lower back and jutting out of his left side.
The attacker had run up on him, unheard in the noisy surf. As the blade was ripped out, Cody whirled around and smashed his elbow into his attacker's solar plexus, knocking him back into the foamy water.
Running to his bike as fast as he could manage, Cody grabbed his katana from it's scabbard and turned to face his attacker, now only a couple of steps behind him.
"Gaaaahhhhhh!" Cody gasped as the blade gored him just above his navel. Looking down at the sword, Cody saw that he had been stabbed with Kevin's sword, freshly looted from his friend's body. The attacker ripped the blade out with a twisting motion and a wild laugh.
"Unhhhh!"
"Eat this, fucker!" Cody snarled as he thrust his blade into the attacker's ribcage.
"Agh!" Almost immediately the wounded attacker stabbed his blade, again, into Cody's bare chest.
Drawing his sword back from his attacker, Cody watched as he fell to the ground, bleeding from the upward thrust that must have sliced both his heart and lungs.
Cody felt his throbbing manhood swelling as he sank to the sandy beach on his knees. He looked down and stared at the handle of Kev's katana that was now only about ten inches from his chest with the rest of it's thirty inch length through him and out his back.
"At least it's Kevin's..." he said out loud. "Wish it had been you that did it Kev..."
A weak cough and a gasp caught his attention. His attacker was breathing his last in the sand in front of him.
"We have killed each other." Cody said. "Today we both die."
The still figure did not answer.
"Looks like you beat me through death's door." he gasped, "I'll be with you soon."

Cody started to fall to his side, trying hard to avoid falling on the blade or handle of the katana. As he lay he could see Kev's body rocking back and forth as the waves washed against him in the foaming surf. Nearer to him was the still body of the man who had killed his friend, now dead by Cody's sword. His wound no longer bleeding, the soldier lay on his back a few feet away, slim and handsome, and obviously a deadly fighter.

"Unhhhh!" Cody groaned as he lay on his side in thee sand. His eyesight fading he realized that he had often dreamed of dying like this. Killed in battle while scoring kills against his enemy. Better yet, he got to avenge the death of his best friend before he fell.

His manhood ached to expel his load. His body convulsed as the sexual spasms filled his trunks with hot, thick cum. Jerking and shaking, the blade in his chest sawed through more flesh and started bleeding much faster.

Thinking of his friend, He fantasized about being stabbed as Kevin was being stabbed by him. In his mind they fell together into the churning surf. His final load now completely expelled, he closed his eyes and surrendered to his dreams.

Ambushed

Figured I was a dead man. I had no idea that he was there. I stepped into the clearing and suddenly he was on me. I blocked his attack with one hand while pulling my knife with the other. He was a slasher. I hate slashers. I always try to avoid them and long for the chance to drive my weapon to the hilt in them - several times. He slashed at me repeatedly, cutting my hand and eventually slashing across my gut. It was not very deep, but the pain made me overly defensive. I got knocked off balance and landed on my hands and knees at his feet. I took a desperate stab at his legs as I tried to regain my footing but suddenly he was hit broadside by Drew as he came to my rescue. "Unhhhh!" he grunted as Drew pulled him by his waist and his shorts, pulling him to the ground, the two of them rolled, grunting and snarling, jumping to their feet to square off.
Drew never gave the bastard a chance. He drove his big blade into his gut three times before he dropped to his knees. Drew then jammed his knife into him, shoved it harder, and shoved again as the blade emerged from the guy's back, each thrust accompanied with a "Garrrggghhh!" "Unghhhh!" "Gaaahhhhh!"
Blood poured from him as Drew held him up, waiting for him to die. Finally Drew ripped his knife out of him and stabbed him right through the waistband of his trunks, still holding him up, he ripped his blade upward until he hit the guy's breastbone. I watched as his guts spilled out on the ground and Drew dropped him face down into his gutpile. He made a feeble effort to raise his head but collapsed for the last time and lay still.
Drew turned to me, His eyes lit up with excitement as he saw me standing. "You ok Ben?" Drew asked me, as he realized for the first time that I was alive. "I thought you were a goner."
"Me too," I admitted. "Thanks." He grabbed me with a bearhug that sent pain tearing through me. Slapping me on the back he said, "Lets get you back, you need some patching up there." he said. "Besides, we don't know if he was alone."
"Putting his arm around me, he started walking back to the base. I was really lucky he was there for me.

Last to Die

The battle raged on and on. Neither side was faring all that well. One by one they fell, and then their killers fell at the hands of another. Keith was wearing out but he was doing the best he could. Getting to his feet after the latest kill, he pulled his spear from the soldier's chest and turned to face the lone remaining opponent.
The kid looked too young to be in battle at all. Keith stood, waiting to see if he might run away but the soldier charged at him with a fury that took Keith by surprise. He realized that he should have attacked when he had the chance as he was driven backward by the ferocious rage of the onslaught. Tripping over the body of his latest victim, Keith stumbled backward. His attacker screamed with a renewed fury as Keith fell. He threw his spear. . .
"Guuhhhhgh!" The spear plunged deep in Keith's gut. Keith struggled to escape the penetrating steel but there was no escape to be had. He was suddenly aware of the pain that he had inflicted on so many others today. The weight of the spear handle twisted and pulled the spear point downward and forced Keith to hold the weapon up with one hand. The spear had been taken from one of his fallen comrades and now it would prove to be the instrument of death for him. The wild eyed soldier screamed again and ran toward Keith, planning to finish him off. Keith quickly grabbed his own spear and defensively pointed it at the charging soldier. "Aaaaaaaghhhh!"
The young soldier stopped dead, literally, the spear now planted in his heart, he looked down at his chest and toppled to the ground. Keith lay on the battle field, slowly dying, hearing the moans of other wounded and dying men from both sides all eventually go silent in a battle that neither side had won.

Swordsman's Death

My luck was running out. I had climbed down to the rowboat and managed to make it undiscovered to the shore. Armed with this beautiful sword, I was confident but still hoping to escape to the sanctuary of the woods before I was discovered. - No such luck.
"Stop where you are!" The booming voice ordered. I stopped.
"Throw down your weapon." The voice ordered. I turned to see who was speaking and to my relief I saw he was armed with a sword too. At least he wasn't going to shoot me.
"Take it from me - If you can. . ." I challenged.
He was not from the ship. He was dressed in jeans and barefoot. Not wearing a uniform like I was.
"Just let me pass and no one gets hurt." I offered. "I don't want to hurt anyone."
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I'm escaping from that ship." I pointed toward the "Vessage" with my sword. "I was kidnapped and made to serve on her."
"That's a military uniform you're wearing." He pointed out.
"That's the way they do it. They kidnap you and force you to serve on board. They kill deserters. I'm a dead man if I go back."
"You're a dead man if you stay." He demanded. "We don't like strangers here."
"Then you leave me no choice. If I go back I die, if I stay here I have to fight for my life." "At least here I have a fighting chance."
"If you kill me, others will hunt you down." he said as we started squaring off.
"I told you, if I go back to the ship, they will kill me. I don't need to stay here, let me pass through and I will not return."
"I cannot." he said, swinging at me. Our swords clashed loudly as he attacked.

The battle was furious, he was good. I knew that I could not give him any chance. I was just barely a match for him. Our different fighting styles put us both on the defensive, not sure what the other might do next.
He slashed with the curved blade and thrust toward me every chance he got. I was amazed at the speed he managed with his blade. I barely missed getting skewered and had very little opportunity to score any blood on him.

"You fight like a woman." I taunted. A sudden fire lit in his eyes.
That was it! He reacted to my taunt with anger.
"Pussy boy! Did your mommy teach you to fight?"
"Shut up!" He snarled.
"Why, are you going to sick your mommy on me?"
"You die!" He screamed as he raised his sword over his head as if to chop me in half. It was the chance I was looking for. Diving in under his raised sword, I drove my sword at him with both hands as I ducked and rolled to the side.
Looking up at him, he was frozen in place with his sword still raised. He looked down at his gut where my sword now protruded from his body. The blade had gone completely through and as much was sticking out his back as was showing in front.

He stepped backwards, loosing strength as he lowered his sword from over his head, he fell back, sitting down hard at the water's edge. The pain of falling with the sword through him sapped his strength quickly. He dropped his sword across is lap and stared down at the blade in him. A small wave splashed over him, wetting him down and carrying a bright red stain back down the beach and out to sea.
"I really didn't want to kill anyone." I told him. "I just wanted to escape."
"I couldn't let you pass." He said quietly. "Others will come. They will kill you. They will avenge my death."
"If they do, they do." I said, reaching for the handle of my sword.
"But you will never know." I said. Pulling the blade free from his body, he gasped, braced himself as the blood poured from the wounds into the surf. Taking a deep breath, he let out with a loud, scream. "Eeeyyyyyyaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhh!" He then toppled back and lay still. The shriek echoed back into my ears. I was sure that someone had to hear him so I turned toward the tree line and left his dead body to the will of the sea.
Hope his friends are lousy swordsmen...

Sacrifice

"Hurry! They're coming, Get out quick! I'll try to hold them back, go NOW!"
Vin,'s voice was strained with the urgency of the moment. I looked up at the window and his naked form was silhouetted in the bright light streaming into the cellar where we were hiding.
"Come down here with us, don't let them see you!" I called back.
"They've already seen me, go now. Don't make me die in vain."
The words hit me like an arrow in the heart. I couldn't think of him dying. He was so strong, so good looking, so smart. He had been my companion and lover for months now and he always kept us one step ahead of the hunters that were sweeping the cities, cleaning out the stragglers that refused to join with the new order. Kill on sight, no mercy for anybody. If they found us, we would die.
"Peter! Go!... I love you. Use what I've taught you - Go!"
Before I could protest, Vin let out a muted groan as he struggled to hold on to the window frame as an unseen soldier drove his spear through Vin's back and out through his navel. His awesome body arched against the thrust and strained to hold on just a little longer. I started to scream his name but one of our people, Robert, cupped his hand over my mouth as he dragged me into the tunnel opening. "Come on, It's too late to save him." Robert whispered, "He did this for us - - Come on. Move."
The last thing I saw was Vin falling face down to the floor with a sickening thud, followed by another spear thrown down into his back, between his shoulders, splitting his spine. He didn't have time to suffer long, the suffering was to be mine, every time I thought of him and the last thing I ever saw of him in that cold cellar.
"I miss you, Vin. I still love you."

"I will always love you."

Swordsman's Death 2

As I had feared, the horrendous shriek had been heard by someone. Before I got very far in the forest, I heard the next swordsman coming my way.
"Stop where you are! You cannot pass."
"What is it with you people? I don't want to hurt anyone, I just need to move on."
"You cannot come this way. I will kill you."
"I can't go that way, those on that ship out there will kill me if they catch me."
He kept coming toward me, I started backing away, hoping to be able to talk some reason to him. He was not having it.
We were at the treeline now and he could see the ship anchored offshore.
"Tell them to leave or they die too." he challenged.
"You're not listening." I said. "They will kill me if they catch me. I have no choice."
"Then you die here at my hand." He said, changing his stance, ready to attack.
I backed out onto the beach where I at least had only him and the sand to deal with. He followed me, eagerly slashing and stabbing at me with his sword. He was confident, and quick.
"Did your mother teach you to fight?" I asked. "You fight like a woman."
"Better than you," he replied "You fight like a little girl."
- Well, that didn't work.
He became more aggressive. Slashing and driving me back as he tried to send me to my great reward. I was getting tired fast.
Suddenly his eyes widened. Looking past me he became agitated over something he saw, giving me a renewed hope for my survival.
"Arno! Arno! Noooo! You've killed Arno!
Turning his attention to me he started is attack with renewed rage.
I backed away, not daring to turn and run, he kept hacking at me, now using overhead, two handed chopping and slashing attacks. I soon stumbled and sat on my ass in the sand as he continued to drive into me.
I rolled to the side just as his blade chuffed into the sand where I had been sitting. As he pulled his sword back I rolled again, this time toward him, driving my blade upward into his waiting gut.
"Aaaaagggghhhh!" He groaned as my blade tore through him. "Unh! Uhh, Arno! Arno, I join you."
He was now laying on the sand, panting as his life slowly fled away. He was aroused and pumping his last as the waves of pleasure and agony rocked his strong, young body.
"It didn't need to happen this way," I said, "I just need to get away from the ship, that's all." "I never wanted to kill you or Arno. You left me no choice."
"Arno." He whispered. "I love you."
"Then it's time to join him." I said, standing to my feet. Picking up his sword I positioned it over his heart. He looked up into my eyes and smiled. "Thank you. You make me stronger."
"Not from my point of view." I answered. "Good bye."
I shoved the blade into his chest. I was amazed at how easily it slipped through him. It was almost as if he was not even there. A renewed fountain of thick white fluid erupted from his shorts, spreading on his leg and the sand He lay back on the sand and relaxed in his death sleep. He passed so peacefully at the end. I marveled at the incredible blade he had used. I pulled my sword from his gut, having to plant my foot on him to pull it free. Then I removed the sword from his heart. It came free with an incredible ease.
Again, another shot of white fluid erupted from his manhood, landing on my foot.
Enough time wasted here, I thought, and headed off toward the treeline again.

On the Field of Battle

A variety of short tales from the myriad battlefields past, present, future, factual or fanciful. Mankind doing what it seems to do so often, and oh, so well.

Recovered
We stood in silence as Gregor walked toward Us. He was carrying Jan, his kid brother, I knew that he would not say anything to us, but god help the hapless bastard that did this to his brother. Gregor's fury won't stop with simple death...

Double Exposure
Derry cautiously approached the doorway, knowing that there was someone inside.
"Come on out." he said "I won't hurt you."
He saw a figure in the darkness moving toward him with his hands up.
"Come on out where I can see you." he ordered. The dark figure stopped short of the light. One of the hands moved quickly and Derry felt the sudden impact in his chest.
Stumbling back into the daylight he fell to the ground hitting hard on his back."What? ... Unhhh..." He saw the blade fully half way through his body in his chest. The pain mocked him as he found he could not even hold his head up without utter agony. His attacker smiled down at him and said nothing. He knew that he was already as good as dead, and returned to the darkness of the doorway. Derry lay his head down for the last time. The searing pain was thankfully fading away, along with everything else.

The time for extraction was near, the boat was going to be at the extraction point in just a few minutes. As he hurried toward shore, he passed the wreckage of his helicopter again. It lay on it's side in the thick branches, almost invisible from the ground, let alone from above. The thick trees hid everything from view... Including the native warriors that had killed the other three members of his crew. One by one they were hunted down and killed, leaving the others in escalating fear. It wasn't until a few minutes ago that he actually saw one of them. He was trying to get the radio working to tell his rescuers to please hurry, and bring weapons, but to no avail. The batteries were dead. He just barely heard the warrior before he turned and the savage was right on top of him. He stabbed him several times in the gut before the warrior fell. Now Wes was left with just minutes to get to the shoreline and hopefully, be there when the rescuers arrived.

What was that? . . . A ships horn! They were signaling to him! He broke into a run in the direction of the signal. He was sure that he could hear someone running through the thick brush behind him. Not looking back, he pressed on even harder. This was his only chance!

There - The blue of the ocean was now visible through the trees ahead. Got to hurry. . .

As he broke through the last of the brush at the beach edge, he could see the ship, sitting in the water several hundred yards out and a small boat about halfway to shore.
A sudden burning pain erupted within his gut as he spotted the painted warriors standing between him and the water's edge. Grabbing at the arrow in his gut he gasped with pain and dropped to his knees.
"Noooo!" he cried out. "Please! Nooooo! Unhhhhh!"
The second arrow struck his chest and Wes knew that he too was about to die. Already pierced through the heart, the next five arrows rapidly struck an unfeeling target as his limp form fell back in the sand in silence.

The warriors quickly ran into the brushline and carried their quarry with them, leaving only a blood smeared knife in the sand as any evidence that anything might have happened here.

"You stick with me. We're in the best place we can be here, Up on this roof we can pick off any of them before they even know that we're here." Dagon said. He had chosen me as his and I really felt good about it. One of the best archers here, he had taught me carefully and lovingly, everything he knew about archery. I was honored to be his disciple and lover. The enemy was within the city but we were stationed up here to keep watch and defend our location.

All seemed clear as Dagon retold his favorite battle tales. I didn't mind, in fact I liked listening to them again, it helped keep the long boring hours from putting us to sleep. These long night watches were tedious. Nothing ever happened and we had to stay on duty until relieved.

"We walked down the hill after the battle and counted over nine hundred bodies that were struck down with our arrows!" he boasted, (last time it was six hundred bodies) "We proved that a good squad of archers were - agggkkkkhh!"

"Huh?" I said. I felt something warm splatter on my arm and face. I had been watching over the ledge and I turned to see what was wrong.
Dagon was struggling to get a breath. An arrow had pierced him through the throat and the tip was sticking out of his neck, dripping blood. He looked so helpless, even afraid, not quite understanding what was happening to him. Before I could react, another arrow slammed into his back between his shoulder blades and he toppled over dead at my feet.

Gaius, Paulus and Flavius have always been together. Called sons of blood by their fellowsoldiers, they had a reputation for standing firm and fighting like they cannot die. Fearlessly they had stood together and held the line in battle many times now. They had won the favor of the ladies in the Coleseum defeating the fiercest of foes that the gamesmen had thrown at them. At the same time they were still very young, and with that youth comes speed and agility. Too often the bigger, stronger opponent had misjudged them to their fault and it had led to their demise, as they skillfully dodged and darted about and pounced in for the kill.

Today, however, the battle was different. The Sythian tribesmen were incredibly fierce fighters and most of the Roman soldiers wondered why they were stuck here defending Moesia Minor but it must be important because Emperor Decius and his son Herennius Etruscus were both here and they had to defend the emperors at all cost. The honor of guarding them fell to the Sons of blood.

Paulus was first to fall. A Sythian arrow to his throat as the invaders stormed up the steps. No time to mourn now. Paulus' grabbed the arrow shaft and yanked it from his throat just as a sythian spear plunged into his belly. He would have died anyway but Flavious was enraged by the brutality of his friend's death. Flavius drove his spear completely through the Sythian dog's chest and the manbeast's blood gushed out front and back running down the steps of the building and he was dead before he fell.

Gaius was next. Running to put himself between a Sythian sword and Herennius, his emperor, the blade opened Gaius like a butchered lamb and he fell, writhing in his own entrails. That same blade then pierced the heart of the Emperor's son. Flavious' spear then took the life of the assassin, going in through his back between his shoulder blades and splitting his chest right in front of Decius as he rushed to his fallen son.

Now an arrow stabbed into Flavious' thigh causing him to fall to his knees. Three more arrows then took the life of the Emperor right before Flavious' horrified eyes. No Roman emperor had ever fallen in battle before!

"Nooooo!!" he screamed struggling to get to his feet again. "I've failed you!"

Turning toward the noise of Flavious' agonized cry, the huge Sythian hefted his spear and threw it deep into Flavious' chest.

As the world dimmed and the sound of battle faded, Flavious saw his emperor fall atop his dead son as the exuberant Sythians repeatedly plunged swords and spears into their bodies in a blood lust celebration of their victory.

-----------------
{The Battle of Abritus (modern Razgrad, Bulgaria), also known as the Battle of Forum Terebronii, occurred in the Roman province of Moesia Inferior probably in June, 251, between the Roman Empire and a federation of "Scythian" tribesmen under the Goth King Cniva. The Romans were soundly defeated, and Roman Emperors were both killed during battle. They became the first Roman emperors killed in a battle with a foreign enemy. }

If man were immortal he could be perfectly sure of seeing the day when everything in which he had trusted should betray his trust, and, in short, of coming eventually to hopeless misery.  He would break down, at last, as every good fortune, as every dynasty, as every civilization does.  In place of this we have death.  ~Charles Sanders Peirce
